Vooks Storyteller: Record Yourself Reading, Share It Anywhere

Storyteller lets you record yourself narrating a Vooks story in your own voice, then share that recording with someone else. It is included in every paid Vooks plan.

The thing that makes it unusual: the person you send it to does not need a Vooks subscription to watch it. A shared Storyteller recording opens for anyone who has the link.

Reading to a child you aren't with

The strongest use of Storyteller is distance.

A parent deployed overseas can record a bedtime story and send it home. A parent on a work trip can still do the Tuesday-night book. A grandmother three states away can read to a grandchild she sees twice a year, in her own voice, with her own pauses and the way she always says that one line.

Military families, business travel, divorced or separated households, out-of-state relatives, a parent in the hospital — the situations differ, but the problem is the same. Bedtime reading is a relationship, not a transcript, and it is one of the first things distance takes away. Storyteller gives it back without requiring the other household to buy anything.

Kids can record too

The second use is the child holding the microphone.

Children narrate a story themselves, hear it back, and share it with a grandparent or a teacher. This is reading aloud with a real audience and a real reason — which is what makes practice stick. Kids consistently describe the mic as their favorite part.

For a child building fluency, this is repeated read-aloud practice that doesn't feel like practice. For a child learning English, it is production rather than passive exposure. For a shy reader, it is performing without anyone watching in real time.

How it works

  1. Open a story in the Vooks app

  2. Record your narration

  3. Share the finished recording

The recording keeps the animation and the highlighted read-along text of the original story. What changes is the voice.
