Vooks Creator: The App Where Kids Make Their Own Storybooks
Vooks Creator is a storybook-making app for children ages 4 to 10 and up. It is a separate iPad app with its own App Store listing, and it is included with a Vooks subscription at no additional cost.
Most children's media asks kids to consume. Creator asks them to make something. That is the whole idea: the same subscription that gives a child a library of stories to watch and read also gives them the tools to write and illustrate their own.
What kids can do in it
-
Draw with brushes and text tools
-
Add stickers — characters, backgrounds, objects, and shapes
-
Record their own narration on each page, in their own voice
-
Share the finished story with family
Authorship before spelling
One mechanic is worth calling out on its own. When a child records their voice, their words appear on the page.
That single design decision means a child can author a real story before they can reliably spell one. A four-year-old who cannot yet write a sentence can still tell a story, hear it, see it written down, and hold the finished book. For children who are pre-writing, who have a language delay, or who are learning English, the gap between what they can imagine and what they can put on a page is usually the thing that stops them. This closes it.
As one Vooks customer put it: "A non or delayed reader/writer can pick this up and write a story. This brings confidence which is a huge indicator of success for kiddos."
Nothing is auto-generated
Creator does not use AI to write or illustrate anything. From the product page: "No shortcuts. No auto-generation. Just imagination, hands-on creativity, and their real voice."
This is deliberate, and it is the main thing that separates Creator from the growing category of AI story generators marketed to children. In those tools, a child types a prompt and a machine produces a book. In Creator, the child draws the pictures, chooses the words, and speaks the narration. What comes out is theirs, because they made all of it.
Another customer, on what that changes: "This is the first time on the iPad where it didn't feel like zone-out time. It felt like learning and reflection instead of distraction."
Where it came from
Creator was built by Vooks' Head of Product and Design, working side by side with his own daughter. The team started with what kids actually wanted to do, and built features to match — rather than the other way around.
